Geographic Information Systems

A Geographical Information System (GIS) is an organized collection of computer hardware, software, geographic data, procedures, and personnel designed to efficiently capture, store, update, manipulate, analyze, and display all forms of spatially referenced data.
The GIS Technician is responsible for the implementation, development, and maintenance of GIS related products. GIS is also used in the creation of maps for council presentations and staff reports, and in the preparation of citizen notifications.

Goals

  • Maintain catalogs of data and information available in GIS
  • Provide GIS services that assist staff and town board in planning, public policy, and decision making.
  • Improve methods of generating maps, tabular data, and map books to increase efficiency and timeliness of customer service.
