Building DepartmentThe Town of Milliken recently adopted the 2012 International Codes including the 2009 International Energy Code. Adopted codes with amendments will be available at Town Hall. SAFEbuilt will be hosting a workshop during the month of June to help better understand the major changes and amendments that the Town of Milliken adopted. All Contractors must register with the Town, see Contractor License Registration
Building Permits are needed for all new construction (residential, commercial, industrial etc.) and for the following improvements/enhancements to property within the Town of Milliken:
* Accessory Structures, such as, detached garage or shed over 120 sq. feet (Informational Handout) * Additions - Residential (Informational Handout) and Commercial * Air Conditioners (New and Replacement) * Basement Finishes and Remodels (Informational Handout) * Building Moves and Demolitions * Decks or Patios (Informational Handout) * Electrical Work (Any and All) * Enclosing Exisiting Decks and Patios * Furnance/Gas Heaters (New and Replacement) * Patio Covers and Car Ports (Informational Handout) * Pole Barns (Informational Handout) * Re-Roofs (Informational Handout) * Residential Pools (Informational Handout) * Siding, Windows and Awnings * Sprinkler Systems * Water Heaters/Boilers Systems (New and Replacement) * Wood and Pellet Stoves Fees – are based on the actual cost of the work being completed. Town of Milliken collects 2.5 % on the material cost for Use Tax. Building Permit Turn Around New Residential – 7-9 business days to first comments Residential remodel/alterations – 5-7 business days to first comments Multi-family/Small Commercial is up to 15 business days to first comments Large Commercial is up to 20 days to first comments and up to 10 days for comments on re-submittals. SPECIAL NOTE: New Xcel Energy Meter Socket Requirements Effective June 1, 2010 Xcel will require all single phase residential electric meter sockets, combination meter socket/load-center in their service territory to be equipped with a 200AMP HEAVY DUTY LEVER ACTUATED LOCKING-JAW BYPASS.
